Power to The Busker
For those of us whose music has taken them to the streets rather than the recording studio, it can seem like that long awaited break is quickly evading our grasp. However, defeatism and self-pity will get you nowhere. By remaining confident, and doing everything you can to get the most out of your busking activity, you give yourself a better chance of getting noticed, and at least you'll mae a few quid at the end of the day.
Busking can be a difficult, time-consuming and mentally challenging activity. On the other hand, it can be a great way to build up confidence, character and a thick skin, all important attributes for a performing artist.
Unfortunately, many peoples's idea of a busker is that of someone in a desperate situation, immersed in alcoholism, drugs or both. In the vast majority of cases this is as far from the trutyh as possible. Most buskers are musicians, hoping to gain a bit of live performance experience and promote their skills amongst the locals.
Whilst a decent level of musical talent and a reasonably varied catalogue of tunes will generate a mostly positive respobnse from passers-by, it is always worth noting that you cannot please everyone. Don't be distracted by negative comments; roll with the punches and learn to live with inevitable criticism.
Here are some points to keep in mind if you are considering a busking stint. Don't be put off if you haven't made a lot of money after a few hours. Be realistic about how much people are likely to give away for your performance, and how many are likely to even consider donating in the first place.
Secondly, location is vital; the city centre is obviously the optimum place to gain as much exposure as possible, however, this will count for nothing if those you are exposed to cannot hear you or are distracted by other activities. Make sure you have a good central spot without too much external distraction.
Finally, the correct power generation is an essential factor in any busking attempt. What if your amplifier cut out after a couple of hours? What if your mic died? Gig over? Not necessarily. If you have come prepared, then power need never pose a problem. Whether you only require a small battery pack or need to invest a bit more in generator rental, it is always worthwhile ensuring that your power supply will not let you down.

Headunit preout voltage?
I currently have an alpine 9882ri headunit with 3 RCA preouts all at 2V. I have a Vibe Blackbox bass 5 amplifier which is rated at 1500W RMS 3000W peak which accepts an 0.2V to 5.5V RCA input. From this I have a Vibe Space CBR 12" sub rated at 1000W RMS 3000W peak.
Due to the higher power amplifier I only have the gain on the amplifier set at half way.
My question is that as my headunit only packs out 2V, is the amplifier tuned so that it packs out 1500W RMS when there is a 5.5V input and the gain is set at close to 3/4? What I am trying to understand is that when a 2V input is applied to the amp and the gain set to full, would the amplifier pack out the full 1500W RMS / start clipping the signal or would it in fact not be able to produce that high a wattage?
I am a bit confused with this as I don't want to blow my sub.

Hey. The voltage that you set only has to match your car's head unit voltage. As long as you set your amp voltage to match your unit voltage, which in your case would be 2volts, It will pump out 1500rms! Don't try increasing your gain on your amp thinking that you will get 1500rms! You will damage your subs! I see damaged subs from this in my shop all the time. Set your amp to 2volts. It will always pump out 1500watts no matter what. Hope this helps.
