How do I get my electric guitar to sound more Beatles-ish?
So I remember reading something once that said in order to get that kind of sound, I'd have to change my amp settings. Well here's what knobs my amp has: gain, volume, treble, middle, and bass + a boost button. My guitar has 2 knobs besides volume which are T1 & T2. What should I adjust and how, to get that 60s Beatles type sound? Thanks.
Hello there,
I think you will find it difficult to capture the Beatles sound with whatever guitar and amp you have. I had a Rickenbacker and played through a Vox amp. That was close to some of the sound, but not all. The reason is simple. They used so many different guitars, you cannot capture their sound with any one guitar. Take a look at this website and you may be surprised at how many different (and different sounding) guitars each of the guys owned.

One more thing about your amp. The amp is a very important part of your sound. I am guessing you have a modern solid state amp. You cannot get their sound from solid state. They tube amps, primarily (not always) Vox tube amps. You cannot duplicate the sound of a tube amp with most solid state amps.
To try to duplicate the tube tone with a solid state amp, try picking up an overdrive pedal. That sort of gives you the sound of a tube amp. Without the pedal, set your gain pot up fairly high (not to the point where your sound distorts). Keep the bass normal. Bring the middle up quite a bit and the treble up a little. It will take a little experimentation to get the sound you like best, But that is the general range for your amp settings.
On your guitar pots, since you have a volume and 2 tone pots, I would guess your have a Strat or a Strat clone. I have never known any reason to play with the guitar pots at less than max settings. The only reason would be if your sound begins to break up (given the amp settings combination). If that does happen, back off on the volume only until the sound stops breaking up.
I think that will give you the best shot at the sound you want with the equipment you have. Not perfect match, but as close as you can probably get.
One last thing to cover, the pickup selector switch. If you are playing rhythm guitar, use either the middle setting (all pickups) or the setting for the neck and mid pickup. If you are playing lead, Harrison generally played from the bridge setting, but not always, There are some songs he played on the neck pickup setting.
