3 Steps to Use IC 7485 Chip?
7485 is an IC electronic component, and it's a common comparator that compares two 4-bit binary numbers. How to use it to compare? Here are 3 steps that will tell you how to use it.
1. Prepare a 5-volt power supply, connect it and ground to terminals 8 and 16 of IC 7485 . A terminal diagram may be found by clicking the "7485 - 4-Bit Magnitude Comparators - National Semiconductor" link in the reference section. Turn the 7485 so that the notch on the top is pointing to the left. Power terminal 16 is the top left terminal and is referred to as "Vcc." Ground terminal 8 is the bottom right pin and is referred to as "gnd." The 7485 chip has a Vcc turn on voltage of 4.75 to 5.25 volts.
2. Connect the lines. Connect the first 4-bit binary input(A) to terminals 10, 12, 13 and 15 with terminal 10 being the least significant digit and 15 being the most significant. And connect the second 4-bit binary input(B) to terminals 9, 11, 14 and 1 with terminal 9 being the least significant digit and 1 bing the most significant digit.
3. Be sure your outputs, connect the positive pins of LEDs to each output terminal and the negative pins to ground, then you can measure the voltage across the output terminals 5, 6 and 7 by connecting the positive probe of a voltmeter to each terminal and the negative probe to ground. The details are: terminal 5 corresponds to A>B, terminal 6 corresponds to A=B, and terminal 7 corresponds to A

I have seen this chip mentioned several times in textbooks and such as a "damn fast buffer", but I can't find from any of my usual suppliers (rs, farnell, rapid). does anyone know where I can buy it (preferably in the UK but ICs are light)
