Better Ballet Foot Control - Ballet Diet - Men In Ballet Too
Detailed ballet foot control is needed before you get into ballet pointe shoes, or for the men in ballet, before you will master multiple turns and tours en l'air.
This article is mainly concerned with the ballet foot control that you need before getting onto pointe, or advancing in ballet classes. For men in ballet too - you can do daily exercise and you will get strong!
Here is a test to check your real strength and control:
- keep the legs parallel, face the mirror, and rise up and down slowly keeping the weight in the middle of your feet, so there is no sickling in or out.
- if your ankles are wobbly, be aware of your sole-of-the-foot-muscles, check if they are working
- take note that you are holding your turnout muscles even in this parallel position, as most knees roll in a little if not held in line.
This movement must be strengthened before poise, arm position, toe shoes, pirouettes, etc., is of any concern.
Once you are sure that you can feel that your ankles are lined up in exactly the right place, go back to first position for your slow motion releves.
Pointe shoes and tour en l'air don't matter yet, as you can injure yourself or begin acquiring tense and awkward work habits if you are not ready to do pointe work, or cannot execute the simple exercise as described above.
(Ballet turnout is best described and understood in Deborah Vogel's "Tune Up Your Turnout".)
If you cramp right away, on your first rise, then your muscles are weak. Calf muscles will overwork if your intrinsic foot muscles are weak. There are specific exercises in pre-pointe exercise, to strengthen those tiny foot muscles.
Relax and do a demi-plie (none of this should be torture).
Cramping has other causes also such as dehydration and loss of electrolytes. Calcium and magnesium deficiency will lead to cramping too. You need all 12 of the cell salts to maintain your electrolytes. A good sea salt will help, kelp, other sea weed, or homeopathic 'bioplasma' or 'all 12' tablets.
And of course, good proteins, lots of raw or lightly steamed green vegetables and salads, and fruits are mandatory. Did I say mandatory? Yes, I did! Your bones and muscles are MADE from what you eat. And so is your nervous system that your bones and muscles depend on.
About the Author
When you are exhausted from practice, soak in Epsom Salts, then put on your favorite ballet DVD. Inspiration is important, and seeing yourself in your mind's eye, dancing in pointe shoes, leaping and spinning, is a good thing to do while you rest.
when you get a clearance from the Air traffic controller, what is your deviation limit?
I got two questions that I'm confused with. I would really appreciate help.
Q1
when you get a clearance from the Air traffic controller, "You have been cleared to LAX, cruise 9000 ft " may I fly anywhere from 9000 feet to 17999? or may I fly anywhere from MEA to 9000 feet? or am not suppose to deviate from 9000 feet?
Q2
How would you look for traffic when ATC issues an air traffic advisory? For example, would you look for it based on magnetic heading, true heading, or ground track?
Q1 You're getting bad info. When you're issued a 'cruise' clearance you're good at the altitude specified and all the way to the ground. If you report 'leaving' an altitude, you cannot return to it, so a 'cruise 9000' to LAX would mean that you are to fly anywhere from 9000 all the way to the airport surface. If you don't report leaving 9000, you own from 9000 all the way to the ground, all the way to the airport. We used to use it to get guys on an IFR flight plan into an airport that didn't have a published instrument approach. i.e. 'cleared to the Podunk airport, cruise 4000'.
+ excerpt from the ATC Order +
"CRUISE- Used in an ATC clearance to authorize a pilot to conduct flight at any altitude from the minimum IFR altitude up to and including the altitude specified in the clearance. The pilot may level off at any intermediate altitude within this block of airspace. Climb/descent within the block is to be made at the discretion of the pilot. However, once the pilot starts descent and verbally reports leaving an altitude in the block, he/she may not return to that altitude without additional ATC clearance. Further, it is approval for the pilot to proceed to and make an approach at destination airport.....'.
It's in 4-5-7 of the Order:
"a. Altitude to maintain or cruise. When issuing
cruise in conjunction with an airport clearance limit
and an unpublished route will be used, issue an
appropriate crossing altitude to ensure terrain
clearance until the aircraft reaches a fix, point, or
route where the altitude information is available to
the pilot. When issuing a cruise clearance to an airport
which does not have a published instrument
approach, a cruise clearance without a crossing
restriction may be issued".
note: "2. When an aircraft is issued a cruise clearance to an airport which does not have a published instrument approach procedure, it is not possible to satisfy the requirement for a crossing altitude that will ensure terrain clearance until the aircraft reaches a fix, point, or route where altitude information is available to the pilot. Under those conditions, a cruise clearance without a crossing restriction authorizes a pilot to determine the minimum IFR altitude as prescribed in 14 CFR Section 91.177 and descend to it at pilot discretion if it is lower than the altitude specified in the cruise clearance".
Q2: the o'clock position is relative to the nose of your aircraft. It'll be close, but not completely accurate. nose = 12:00 rt wing tip =3:00 lt wing tip = 9:00 tail = 6:00
- don't get caught up in ground track, direction of flight, etc, keep it simple.....
dumpassp - think again, (and you're wrong about my background, as well). I've also added the AIM reference, which reads identically to the Order (Hmmm, imagine that). Please, don't believe me, just go read the ORDER and the AIM. For guys like you that give out bad info, is why I ALWAYS provide the source for my answers. Don't believe me - go to 'faa.gov' and READ.. you may save your OWN life...
Everybody go back to the Q1 - he didn't ask about 'maintain 9000' - he stated 'cruise 9000' - totally different clearance.
