Importance Of Quality Equipment For Recording Your Music
If you are a musician and a guitarist in particular, you will surely need effects pedals. If you are into recording music, you simply cannot do without these pedals. It is important to have the correct music equipment, but it is also essential that to add the correct effects so that your music sounds more appealing. You might be the best player or guitarist in town, but you still need to add these amazing effects. Most guitarists always use a combination of a minimum of three effects for the sound they produce. These are distortion, chorus and delay though there are other effects too.
What Are Effects Pedals?
Effects pedals are also known as stompboxes. These are small units made of wood or metal. They are placed on a pedal board or on the floor in front of the guitarist. The user has to switch it "on" and "off" with the feet. You can get really simple stompbox pedals where there is just one single footswitch, and also more complicated musical instruments where you will find several footswitches. Though these might be complicated, they offer more effects and are often preferred by many musicians. Some musicians even form an effects chain by connecting together two or more stompboxes. These chains are usually created between the preamplifier and the guitar amplifier. The effects within the chain can be combined in several ways during a performance.
Some Popular Effects Created By Effects Pedals
Distortion - This is a hugely popular effect. This is the sound most folks think about particularly in the case of an electric guitar. The effect can be in various levels and types. For instance, if it is metal that you are playing, you can get the crunchy and heavy sound, and if you are playing guitar rocks or blues, you can get a warmer sound. Those who play country music can also add distortion. Most of them will add a slight distortion to the clean sound of a guitar. This little bit of distortion will add some bite to the sound.
Delay - This is another very popular guitar effect, and it can sound wonderful too. For example, in a huge room, it can have a booming effect and in a smaller one, it will sound more distinct and brighter. The kind of sound a room has will depend on the reflection from the walls. Whatever may be the size of the room, the music people hear will be the original, and also one that gets reflected from the walls. You can find out the length of the room by the delay.
Chorus - This is bread and butter stuff in effects pedals for most guitarists. This will split the sound and delay a signal slightly. To understand this better, imagine two people playing the instrument together. The fact is both of them cannot really play together. One person will always start early, even by a split second. This is what the chorus does.

what does a footswitch pedal for a guitar amp exactly do?
i wasnt sure if you can just switch between effects or if u can switch between effects with the type of sound. would you be able to switch for distortion to a black panel sound with flanger. THis is for the roland cube 30x.
You can either use a Roland FS-6 dual switch, or two FS-5 single switches with the amp.
The foot switches allow you to select either the clean or lead channel, and turn the effects on and off.
