i think it may be broken due to rust in the tank, or the float may be stuck, how could i fix that? also how could i remove the rust from the tank?
I have owned a shop ffor many years. And I have never done a 77 Mustang. But that said,most are the same. first drain the gas tank. If there is no access from the trunk. (I doubt there is.) There are two straps that hold in the tank of most cars.Two bolts hold the straps that hold the tank. lower it and there will be a circular access on the top of the tank. Disconnect the wires that are attached to the sending unit. There is a retaining ring that must be turned about 1/4 revolution. That will unlock the sending unit. Remove the sending unit and replace. Make sure to put your rubber gasket and reverse. It isnt more than a couple hours.
