The Top Causes For Female Hair Loss, Shedding, And Thinning
Over the past several years, I've probably spent countless hours researching female hair loss based on my own experience. This can be an overwhelming, frustrating quest with conflicting or incomplete answers. The most common question that I'm asked by women in the same situation is "why is this hair loss happening and how can I stop it as soon as possible?" I'll answer both questions in the following article. But first, I'm going to cover what I have found are the top three causes of women's or female hair loss.
Hormonal Changes Or Lessening Sex Hormones: One of the more common causes of female hair loss is changes in your hormones. This usually happens from pregnancy, going off and on birth control pills, or approaching menopause. If the woman is young and the changes are just temporary (pregnancy, birth control, etc.) then this form of hair loss (commonly called telogen effluvium) will usually end on it's own within a few months.
Occasionally, this process can kick off chronic or repetitive hair loss which will either take the form of what is called CTE (chronic telogen effluvium) or AGA (female patterned baldness or thinning that is genetic and would've happened some where down the road but is happening now because of the changing hormones.)
In cases of peri menopause or full blown menopause, the hair loss can be more permanent and ongoing until you are able to determine and replace the hormones that are diminishing or have been depleted. Your doctor can help you with this.
Thyroid Or Adrenal Issues: Your thyroid or adrenal glands can also affect your hair. If your body isn't producing enough or too many hormones (called either hypothyroidism (not enough) or hyperthyroidism (too much)) then either of these can kick off losing hair. The good news about this type of loss is that this is pretty easily identifiable by testing your TSH levels and once you can restore the optimal levels, your hair should improve.
Adrenal issues will often present themselves with suspect cortisol levels. Again, your doctor can identify this and help you treat it. Often, these two conditions come with other symptoms like severe fatigue, cold extremities, insomnia, weight loss or gain, and infertility.
Good Old DHT, AGA, Inflammation, And Genetics: Many women don't want to believe that their condition is caused by the same things that cause male hair loss. But, this is often the case. The good news is that the severity of these factors are often less with women and will often respond to treatment. Many women have genetic hair loss or thinning that can skip generations. This is called androgenic alopecia or more commonly AGA. Substances like androgens and DHT (dihydrotestosterone) are enemies of healthy, nutrient rich hair follicles. These substances harm your scalp and starve your hair follicles and can result in thinning and regrowth that miniaturizes over time so that your hair becomes finer and thinner (in the worst case scenario, you get what looks like the peach fuzz that you see on men, but this is rare.)
Sometimes, women will notice a change in the texture of their hair. I often hear this texture described as looking like cotton candy or spider webs. When this happens, something is affecting the health of your follicles so that it isn't producing healthy strands. This can be either DHT, scalp issues, or inflammation. Inflammation almost always goes hand in hand with shedding, no matter what the cause. Having the follicles go into overdrive and shed or kick out the hairs they house creates an angry, inflamed scalp (which is sometimes referred to as "burning scalp syndrome.")
All of these forms of hair loss can be helped by lessening the inflammation and supporting healthy regrowth. Obviously, if there is a medical issue, it will need to be addressed. But, getting your scalp free of DHT and build up and nourishing your hair follicles so that you regrow healthy rather than miniaturized hairs never hurts. Unfortunately, many well known and widely used treatments like rogaine and DHT blockers are very irritating to the scalp and cause more inflammation and hormonal shifts (which can make the problem worse or kick off another TE.) That's why in my own experience, I've found that it's best to start with topicals that don't interfere with hormones or cause more inflammation.
How do I know all of this? Because I lived it. In my quest to end my hair loss, I looked at vitamins, my thyroid, my adrenals, my hormones, and my scalp in my quest to fix my hair loss. It was a long, hard, frustrating journey which all but wrecked my self esteem but I finally found something that helped quite a bit. i'm having techincal issues with my guitar?
whenever i try to plug in my epiphone sg 400 all the sound that comes out of the guitar is fuzz...complete fuzz, when u strum the strings nothing happens, the overdrive switch is off too help pls?
Could be a number of things. Start by working through a process of elimination:
1. try a different cord, to make sure its not a faulty cord
2. try plugging your guitar into a different amp
3. try plugging a different guitar into your amp
This will help you figure out if the electrical problem is in the cord, the guitar or the amp.
Good luck!
