Whats a good Fuzz Pedal?
Im looking at a hole heap of fuzz pedals, but i cant decide which one to get. I cant really test any of the pedals because theres no good music stores around. The ones i have just sell boss and Behringer. Under around 80 - 120 would be perfect.
Ive been looking at the tweak fuzz, Maddog Fuzz and Geo fuzz. any other ideas
I liked the Tweakfuzz, I thought it was a pretty cool pedal. It has a lot of variety to it, as the name implies, you can generate a pretty wide spectrum of sounds. There are a few resources out there for tweaking the circuit itself, ie, modifying one or two of the components to get a louder signal, etc, so that's pretty cool. I was a little surprised that I found a few settings I really liked - I didn't think of myself as being drawn towards fuzz sounds. The last time I really used a fuzz was when I had a Danelectro Fab Tone, and ended up putting an EQ pedal after it and copped a Metal Zone-type tone.
Sure, the Big Muff, etc are going to be good fuzz pedals, but there's different flavors of fuzz. The Muff has a very distinct signature sound and not a lot of versatility outside of that, due to that mid-cut in the tone stack (imho, of course). If you like that sound, sure, but ... I dunno, I like the Tweakfuzz. Seems to be able to cover a pretty decent variety of tones, from a little fuzz to a little bit too much. =)
I've heard that Zvex (Zfex? something like that) makes a pedal called the Fuzz Factory that's supposed to be pretty killer, but aside from someone in Muse using it, I know nothing about it.
Have you looked through YouTube? I'm sure there's got to be tons of audio samples out there.
