Who Else Wants To Buy A Good Guitar Amp?
If you are considering buying a decent guitar amp, this article will be right up your alley. Let's look at the options available to you.
Any accomplished guitarist knows the importance of owning a great guitar amp. A quality guitar amp brings out the best guitar sound. If you plug your best guitar into a good amp, you'll blow other guitarists out of the water. Let's look at the 4 basic types of guitar amp.
1.Tube amps
The tube amp has proven itself many times over. It has been long in existence and other amps are merely clones of it.A tube amp uses glass vacuum tubes in its power section and preamplifier section. It offers a lot of raw power and a warm tone. The tone sounds natural. A negative aspect is that the tubes must be replaced after a few years. If you don't change the tubes your sound will suffer.
2.Solid state:
The solid state amp is known for low maintenance. There are no tubes to replace since the preamp section uses transistors. It is slightly more reliable than a tube amp.The tone is generally grittier and more sterile especially on overdriven or lead tones. Solid date amps are usually less expensive than tube amps.
3.Hybrid amp :
The hybrid amp is an innovative amp that blends a tube preamp section with a solid state power amp section thereby achieving the much desired tube tone. The market leaders are Marshall. They've combined forces with tube amp manufacturer Bogner to create the groundbreaking hybrid amp. A hybrid amp costs more than a solid state amp but are still cheaper than a superior tube amp.
4.Modeling amp:
These hi-tech amps have a built in digital processor that replicate the sounds of numerous guitar amps, concert halls and microphone placement. They feature many gadgets such as built in sound effects,a tuner and a direct line out for recording. Many of them can be switched via a foot controller so that different sounds can be produced on the spot. Despite the technological wizardry they are not in the same class as a good tube amp.
Buying a guitar amp is a rational decision. You are only limited by a lack of money. I'm old-school and recommend a great tube amp. Go buy your amp and crank out a beautiful rock sound. The audiences in the stadiums are waiting for their guitar hero. That could be YOU!
About the Author
How do I connect a guitar amp to an iMac computer for recording?
I need something with the standard GUITAR AMP jack on one end and a USB (etc.) jack on the other end.
Thanks!
On the back of your amp there will be a jack called 'output' or 'AUX out' take another guitar cable and plug it in there. After that you will need an adapter that goes from a quarter inch jack to a normal headphone jack. Plug that into the mic input of your Mac (Always next to headphone jack). Then proceed to using a program like Garageband or Audacity to record!
