car fan wont kick on?
i have a 94 chevy beretta with 3100 series engine i have already put a new temp sensor in and my fan just wont kick on. it comes on when i turn the heat on but thats it. i can turn the a/c on and the fan still wont come on. whats wrong with the fan? is there a way that i can hardwire it? would hardwiring it be bad for the fan?
it gets to the point where my car overheats bad
It is not the thermostat.
Do not rewire the fans to run diferently. Fix the real problem, don't make new ones.
The problem may be in the fan motor itself. Before you proceed, check the fuses especially the underhood fuses.
The Fan is run by a fan relay (or relays) and the relay is operated by the PCM. The PCM uses inputs from the temp sensor, AC controller, AC hi pressure sensor and Vehicle speed sensor to determine when to run the fan. The fact that the coolant fan never runs suggests it is NOT these inputs. Try this: with the engine off, unplug the fan motor. Get an older headlamp, you know the rectangular or round sealed beam type. Use jumper wires to connect the headlamp to the fan connector. Start the engine and turn on the AC. turn the AC blower on high and set the temp to cold. Shortly, the PCM should command the fan on. When it does the headlamp should light. If the AC compressor is engaged and you are getting cold air out the AC and the lamp does not come on, the problem is in the wiring/fuse/relay/PCM. If the lamp does light, you have a worn out fan motor.
