Choosing the Right Type of Air Conditioning Units

There are different types of air conditioning units available in the market. Choosing one system type will depend on the application for the cooling system. The most common are window and split air system. If you are planning to buy a cooling device, take into account the different factors like area to be cooled, the total heat generated inside the enclosed area, etc. before deciding to choose a particular type of cooling system.

First, the window air conditioner, which is the most commonly used air conditioner, is recommended and mostly used for single rooms. This type of system has all components like the compressor, condenser, expansion valve or coil, evaporator and the cooling coil. These components are all enclosed in a single box and the unit is fitted in a slot made in the wall of the room, usually a part of the window.

The second type of air conditioning units is the split air conditioner, which is comprised of two parts: the outdoor unit and the indoor unit. The outdoor unit contains the different components like the compressor, condenser and expansion valve. And, this is fitted outside the room. The indoor unit, on the other hand, comprises of the evaporator or cooling coil and the cooling fan.

Another difference of this type of conditioning system is that users don’t need to make any slot in the wall of the room. And, there are now newer models that have aesthetic looks that can add beauty to the room. This can be used to cool one or two rooms, unlike the window system that can only cool one room.

Next is the packaged air conditioner type of air conditioning units. HVAC designer usually recommends this if you want to cool more than two rooms or you are planning to use it for a larger space at home or at the office. There are two types of packaged air conditioner.

The first type has all the components like the compressor, condenser, expansion valve, and evaporator, contained in a single box. The condenser can be air-cooled or water-cooled. With this arrangement, the high capacity blower throws the cooled air and it then flows through the ducts that are laid through various rooms.

While the second type has the compressor and condenser contained in one casing, there are individual units that contain the expansion valve and cooling coil that are located in various rooms. With this arrangement, the compressed gas passes through the individual units to cool the room or rooms.

The last type of air conditioning units is the central air conditioner. This system is recommended for cooling big buildings, houses, offices, entire hotels, gym, cinema hall, factory, etc. This is comprised of a huge compressor that has the capacity to produce hundreds of tons of air conditioning. It is also cheaper as compared to using individual units for each room.

These are some of the parameters that you should know, when planning to buy air conditioning units.
