Any opinions on my Guitar setup for Metallica, BLS, Ozzy and Pantera?
So, I'm planning on performing with my band and would apreciate some input on my set up. My 2 main Guitars are a Les Paul Copy with EMG's and an LTD Viper with EMG's. My amp is a Dean Dime D100 120 Watt Head w/ Dean Dime D412SL Slanted 300 Watt Cab. My Channel setup is: Guitar to Dunlop Dime Crybaby to MXR Smart Gate to MXR Phase 90 to MXR Wylde Overdrive(for a boost) to MXR Black Label Chorus to Amp. My Band plays a lot of Metallica, Black Label Society, Ozzy, and Pantera
@ Dave: So what you're saying is like take out the Wyde OD, the Black Label Chorus and put in just normal stock stuff? And do you also mean the amp too? Cause i only picked the Dime because it's a State amp, good for Metal, not super expensive, and only has 2 channels.(Clean and Distortion)
Yes. I mean, you basically have amps and pedals specifically designed for the exact tone of the bands mentioned - if you can't make them sound the same, then there's obviously something wrong.
In my opinion though, you should get regular gear (equipment that isn't *insert famous guitar player*) and fool around with it - the tones and effects that come from your own invention are way better than someone else.
*No, I just mean... if you're doing covers of songs, those pedals are great. But I think it's better to get an original pedal and then make it your own. I mean, if you're doing covers, it's perfect to have pedals made specifically for that tone - but if you're making your own original music, don't sound like a copy. Why take the exact sound of a BLS chorus, or the tone of Metallica, when you can use your own? I know the pedals are made for more than one sound, but I find they're great at that one tone - and not as good at others.
That's all I'm saying. Keep your gear, but also keep that thought in mind.
