Regarding Guitar Effect Pedal and Amp settings?
I just bought my first multi effect pedal (Boss ME-25) and i own a Marshall 15watts amp. My question is- is it necessary to switch on my Marshall amp distortion when I have already set distortion through my pedal? Is it redundant?
Or can I just rely my playing on the Marshall Amp to be on Clean mode while the effect pedal on Distortion mode. Which way is more professional?
Hey, it is possible to use the amp's distortion as well as the pedal's, but usually it overloads the signal and comes out sounding worse anyway.
But if you want "the more professional way" as you say, then switch it to clean.
Most, if not all effects used in a recording studio/live gig come from racks/pedals/multi-fx processors/with the amp making only minor adjustments if necessary You'll get a much better sound anyway, you don't want everything to sound crunchy do you?
Also, if your effects pedal has an EQ option, switch the EQ knobs on your amp(or bass/treble/high if that's how your amp shows them) -to the neutral setting, usually its 0, then alter them AFTER altering the pedals EQ options if need be.
But the general rule is: do whatever you think sounds good. There's no set way of doing things
Lastly, you may already know this but if you're using that processor to record to your pc, then you don't connect the amp at all, you use the preamps/amp modelling in your pedal and switch on cabinet modelling if it has it.
