Part I -- Some Filipino Women and Husbands' Switching –New Trend
A decade ago, I have never heard about or witnessed any Filipino women who were engaged in the practice of husbands' switching. After six years of research and traveling, I came face-to-face with this hard-to-believe and disturbing reality: some Filipino women do switch husbands or partners.
As far as I know, this is a new trend that has been kept as a solemn secret or even a taboo because it undermines the true value of the sanctity and sacredness of marriage. In this article, I will explore some of the reasons why some Filipino women have chosen the path to husbands' switching, how it is done, and its consequences, if any.
Social Phenomenon within the Filipino Culture
This is a true story. For the sake of confidentiality, I will be using fictitious names. Joana has been married to Emilio, both Filipino citizens, for nearly 10 years. She is 29 years old and he is 45. They have 3 children: Suzie who is 10, Joe, 8, and Paula, 7. Joana stays home to take care of the children and her husband, who had been working for a local hotel, has lost his job for the past 12 months. Although he has tried hard to get a job, his search has not been successful, which made him very depressed.
Social and Economic Hardships
Emilio, the breadwinner of the family, had fallen on hard times. He has been unemployed for a whole year, and now he receives no income and has no hope of getting any in the near future. With a non-working wife, the economic situation could not have been any bleaker and catastrophic for the family. Having to take care of three school-aged kids is no easy task for the couple anymore.
As these kids are ready to go back to school from the hot summer break, they need school uniforms, shoes, books, and paraphernalia. The couple had consulted with some members of their family for economic help, but what they got was not near enough. Obviously, they had nowhere else to turn for financial aid. They have reached the end of the rope, so to speak.
As the Filipino culture requires, Emilio has had the responsibility to take care of his children's educational needs, putting food on the table, keeping a roof over the family's heads, and in short provide for the family's needs. Heartbreakingly, he was unable to face up to his obligations as the father of these kids.
New Development Leading To Husbands' Switching
A friend of Joana introduced her to a foreign national. The latter invited her to his home. The rest is history. They agreed to live together as they seemed to click.
One day, Joana had a special chat with Emilio, her husband, "Look! We have been married for 10 years. We, as a family, have had some good time in the past, but now the kids are suffering. Their education is in jeopardy, and we do not have anything to eat. We are falling behind our rent payment. What do we do now?" In tears, her husband shook his head, but did not have the courage to utter a word. She further said to him, "For the good of the children, I have no other choice left to me but to move in with another person who will be able to take responsibility to care for the children. Someone has to be responsible for the kids." Both agreed to end their marriage relationships in order to give their kids a chance to have a normal life and an education.

To export contacts:
On your Yahoo! Mail page, click Options in the upper-right corner and select Mail Options.
From the list on the left side, click Contacts Options.
Under “Management”, click Import/Export.
Scroll down and follow the second set of instructions on this page to export addresses to whichever account you choose.
You can also import contact information from other accounts into your Yahoo! Contacts folder. Do this from the upper portion of the Import/Export page.
