Many things that parents attempt to do are, set up rails or gates between the stairs to prevent accidents, make sure they always carry a tube of disinfectant to keep them healthy, make sure they have their helmets and knee pads when riding their bikes, and some parents have even gone as far as setting up cameras to make sure the baby sitters are doing their jobs. What all these things show great examples of is our parental need to protect our children even when we are not around.

Do all compact fluorescent bulbs now have electronic ballasts?
I am looking at buying some light fixtures and would like to consider fluorescent fixtures, but I am concerned about ending up with lights that flicker as the bulbs age.
My understanding is that newer COMPACT fluorescents have electronic ballasts which don't flicker like the older tube or circline fluorescent bulbs. If I stick to compact fluorescents, like the ones with the little twin-tube bulbs, do I have nothing to worry about?
Yes, because the old 60 Hz ballasts were too big. To achieve the "compact", they use a high-frequency switching technique which allows the use of a physically smaller ballast.
