Learn To Play Your Favourite Guitar Solo
One of the pleasures in playing the guitar is to try and recreate a favourite guitar solo exactly as it is heard on the original track, and it is surprising what can be achieved with the right equipment and a bit of practice.
Guitar solos are sometimes played on electric guitars and sometimes on acoustic guitars, depending on the track or arrangement in question. Each solo will have a particular tone, ranging from clear to slightly fuzzy to heavy distortion. Although guitars, especially electric guitars, are blessed with a wide range of these tonal possibilities, most guitars available to buy today should be able to come close to reproducing a required tone, especially when the most suitable input is selected on an amp.
Some electric guitar solos may, on the other hand, be only matched exactly if played using appropriate guitar effects pedals. An example is the ‘wah’ effects pedal, which transforms the tone into a voice-like sound (heard, for example, in the intro to ‘Voodoo Chile’ by Jimi Hendrix). To maximise repertoire it may well be worth investing in some guitar effects pedals of this nature.
Once the guitarist is happy with his or her equipment it should usually only take a few minutes to play with the settings and inputs in order to come close to replicating the desired tone of the solo.
To learn the solo itself, it is best to try and locate a tablature transcription (a simple-to-read musical notation showing the six strings of the guitar coupled with the numbers of the appropriate frets). This can usually be accessed via the internet. Work on the solo very slowly at first until it starts to become familiar.
If you have a particular guitar solo or style of guitar music you would like to play, we at Fret Music can help you find the most appropriate instrument.

Wah effect on electric guitar?
I've seen quite a few electric guitars with the wah effect on them. I recenlty bought an electric guitar, but it doesn't have a wah. What do I need to buy to put a wah effect on my guitar?
a wah is a pedal, meaning you buy it, it needs a power source such as a battery, its foot-controlled, and you run a cable from your guitar to the wah to the amp. it sweeps the peak of the filter up and down in frequency while you move your foot up or down.
the most famous wah is the dunlop crybaby.
